Over the past several weeks, our team has had the absolute pleasure of doing a major overhaul on a clients sewing room + office space, and we have been dying to share this transformation with you! If you have been living in the same home for years, then you know how certain rooms can get extra cluttered and full, and it can be hard to know where to even begin ... That's where we come in. We love bringing spaces back to life, and making them functional and fun again.
First things first, this room needed a good old fashioned purge. Let me tell you, it's easier said than done. It can be hard letting go of items that have been with you over the years, but we know that taking the plunge and doing this can be one of the most freeing things you can do. This multi-purpose room also had bins piled up around the walls, as well as a desk in front of the closet doors, so this was another issue we knew we had to tackle.
Once the space was cleared, we mapped out the new layout. While this happened, we had our team in to put up a fresh coat of paint to brighten up the space. Our client was particularly interested in sewing and quilting, but this room also doubled as an office space, so our goal was to create a beautiful work space where she could go to feel inspired and let her creativity take over, while still keeping an office area as well.
Next we brought in shelving units to fill with all kinds of fabric and crafting supplies, and we made sure that her most used equipment and supplies were stored there, while the overflow we opted to store away in the closet. Across the room, we brought in a 9 ft desk which allows her to have the room she needs to spread out a project, or to plan her next trip!
After we had the functionality down pat, we got to address the aesthetic! We stuck to a very neutral colour scheme to begin with. The light grey, cream and white really brightened the room, which is exactly what that space needed, and then added some soft pops of colour to keep the room looking cozy and fun! The floating shelves above the desk added a place to display some of her work, and we loved that we got incorporate her personality into this area with some photos from her travels and neutral crafting supplies.
We are so glad that we got to be a part of this project and we are thrilled with the finished look. Leave a comment and let us know if you've done a major purge before!
